How to Search Cibola County Court Records
The main statewide public search is New Mexico Case Lookup. It is a no-registration public portal for individual electronic court records from New Mexico appellate, district, magistrate, metropolitan, and municipal courts. Cibola users should expect District Court records for felony, divorce, civil, family, protection-order, and contested probate matters to route through the Thirteenth Judicial District, while Magistrate Court records cover many misdemeanors, DWI, traffic, landlord-tenant, lower-dollar civil, and preliminary felony proceedings.
The Case Lookup disclaimer warns that bulk downloading multiple records per transaction is prohibited and ties database use to NMSA 1978, Section 14-3-15.1. It also says displayed information should be checked with the court where the case was heard if the record looks wrong. Case Lookup is useful for case status, parties, case numbers, filings, hearing dates, and dispositions, but New Mexico Courts states that documents are not available through Case Lookup.
The New Mexico Courts public access page explains re:SearchNM as the registered-user route for Odyssey case information and documents, subject to user profile, case type, and access policy. Live re:SearchNM fields were not captured because inspection was blocked, so document access should be treated as registered and role-dependent, not as an open public PDF library.
- Identify the court level first: District Court, Magistrate Court, Grants Municipal Court, Milan Municipal Court, Probate Court, federal court, or County Clerk.
- Use Case Lookup name search when only a party name is known, and add date or court-location limits when possible.
- Use Case Number Search when the full number is known, including court type, court location, case category, and case number.
- Use DWI Search for historic DWI conviction searches rather than a broad name search.
- Request documents, certified copies, older records, or records not shown online through re:SearchNM, the court clerk, or New Mexico Courts IPRA.

Cibola County Court Records Search Fields
Case Lookup offers name, case-number, and DWI search paths. The name screen can be limited by court type and location. Cibola-relevant location options captured in the research include District 1333 - Grants, Magistrate 61 - Grants, Municipal 94 - Grants, and Municipal 121 - Milan. Municipal court display is limited by state policy, so a direct city or village court contact may still be necessary for Grants or Milan matters.

Because re:SearchNM access depends on registration and access tier, it should be used for document access only after confirming eligibility and current court rules.
Types of Cibola County Court Records
Civil court records may include complaints, answers, motions, orders, judgments, settlement documents, hearing notices, and docket entries. District Court handles larger civil actions and foreclosure-type matters, while Magistrate Court handles landlord-tenant and lower-dollar civil disputes. Public case data may appear in Case Lookup, but actual documents require registered document access, in-person review, or a request.
Criminal court records can include complaints, indictments, informations, charges, pleas, docket settings, bond orders, motions, disposition, judgment and sentence, probation terms, and fine or fee information. Felonies become District Court matters after charging and preliminary stages. Misdemeanors and many traffic or DWI matters may be in Magistrate or Municipal Court.
- Family and divorce records are District Court records and may include petitions, decrees, custody orders, child-support worksheets, and hearings.
- Probate records may begin in County Probate Court for informal estates, while contested estate litigation goes to District Court.
- Traffic records may be in Magistrate Court, Grants Municipal Court, Milan Municipal Court, or District Court for serious criminal traffic matters.
- County Clerk records such as deeds, mortgages, ordinances, resolutions, and marriage licenses are not court case records.
What Cibola County Court Records Show
A public electronic court record may show court type, court location, case number, case category, party names, filing date, hearing date, case style, docket entries, and case status. Financial sections may show fines, fees, bond, costs, or other obligations when available. New Mexico Courts states that Social Security numbers and address information are not available through public Case Lookup.

Record inventory gap: A live sample Case Lookup record could not be inspected in the research capture because a sample search attempt errored. The field inventory above comes from captured search fields and official New Mexico Courts access descriptions.
Public Access Framework for Cibola County Court Records
New Mexico's Inspection of Public Records Act generally recognizes a right to inspect public records unless a specific exception applies. Cibola County's own Transparency page says every person has the right to inspect county public records and that oral or written requests may be submitted to the County Clerk, but formal IPRA procedures and penalties apply to written requests. Court case records follow the court-specific path rather than the county-clerk land-record path.
A written county IPRA request must include the requester's name, address, email address, telephone number, and a description detailed enough for the custodian to identify the records. The county must permit inspection immediately or as soon as practicable, no later than fifteen calendar days after receipt. If inspection is not allowed within three business days, the county provides a written timing response. If records are denied, the custodian gives a written reason within fifteen calendar days.
Note: New Mexico Courts IPRA states that courts do not conduct public criminal background checks and do not maintain law-enforcement records, driving records, or marriage licenses.
Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Cibola County
Several categories should not be treated as fully public. Juvenile criminal cases have not been displayed in Case Lookup since July 1, 2007. Family Violence Protection Act order-of-protection cases have not been displayed since July 1, 2008. PII such as Social Security numbers and address information is withheld from public Case Lookup for security reasons. Adoption, abuse and neglect, FINS, and mental health access can be restricted by re:SearchNM tier and case role.
Sealed and expunged records are not available through ordinary public access channels. New Mexico DPS explains that the Criminal Records Expungement Act allows a qualifying person to petition a court for expungement of certain criminal and related public records, but criminal records are not destroyed and may remain available for future criminal proceedings and some regulated employment purposes. Tribal and federal records located in New Mexico are outside the New Mexico criminal expungement act.

Confirm copy and certification fees before mailing payment because the research did not capture a single Cibola court-copy fee schedule for every court.
Older records require extra caution. Cibola County was created in 1981 from western Valencia County, so very old court, land, marriage, or probate searches may need original-jurisdiction research depending on date and record type. Records before 1997 also may require an online request under the New Mexico Courts public-access guidance.
